The Friday Five for 14 June 2019: Vacation

1. What was your favorite childhood vacation?
Since I was small - 3 or 4 years old we went to Chelkar lake in Kazakhstan. It is salt lake with water that back then seemed 'just like sea one' and with uninhabited wild shores. We went on car and lived in a tent and were often the only people on the shore. It was the best time that I remember. We spent days playing on stone beach in warm water or in the pine forest, or swimming with father and later on our own on his canoe. One year father even made sail for it and I spent a lot of time trying to master it without keeling over.
Sadly in 90th and later it become commercialised in worst way possible. Last time we went there, you had to pay for camping, there were overfilled trash boxes that were never cleaned and trash lying around that wasn't picked as well.

2. What is your dream vacation?
Right now - a tour around Kamchatka. I even found one that is within what I am willing to spend for vacation and there are even plane tickets that are affordable. It would mean living for 12 days in a tent and cooking for myself over camp fire (or more likely an oil stove), but honestly that makes it even more attractive for me... But it is off by just one week from my extra September vacation...

3. If you could take a trip around the world, what locations would you be sure to include?
Kamchatka in Russia, Japan, New Zealand, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Yellowstone, Yosemite and Grand Canyon in USA, Morocco, Ireland, Finland, Montenegro and back in Russia for Karelia.

4. Do you prefer vacations to new destinations, to familiar destinations, or a mix?
New definitely, I love seeing new places and while I always say "I want to get back here" and "I definitely have to plan a future vacation to spent some time leisurely exploring this place", later I have far less enthusiasm for a repeat visit. The only exception if I got back with someone who wasn't there.

5. What activities would you plan for a two week staycation?
I just had a staycation (assuming this means a vacation where you had time off but didn't go anywhere and were stuck at home). So I can tell you about things that I would have loved to do... if weather wasn't that unpleasant.
I would have loved to have long walks around my own city and city parks, there is a number of city excursions that I find interesting, but can't go on because they don't fit between work and dacha. I'd have liked to spent several days on dacha doing a bit of garden work and lazing on a lawn.
